ABHIJITH S WARRIER
If I were asked to describe myself in a single word, I would have to admit that I cannot. In truth, it is difficult—if not impossible—for anyone to encapsulate their essence in just one word with complete accuracy.
My professional journey commenced in a corner of the vibrant CNBC-TV18 newsroom in South Mumbai. One of the first responsibilities entrusted to me by my senior colleagues was operating the teleprompter for anchors—a task more complex than it may initially appear. The challenge lies in precisely matching the pace of the anchors, who rarely adhere to a uniform speed.
Had I retained recordings of every occasion I was summoned from the studios, I would have quite the archive.
However, I advanced quickly. From coordinating live telephone interviews (“phonos”) to managing live graphics, producing both outdoor live and recorded programs, and eventually directing flagship shows, my tenure at CNBC-TV18 was dynamic and richly instructive. It instilled in me the importance of maintaining relevance, responding swiftly, and paying keen attention to detail.
My subsequent experience at newspapers in Chennai was comparatively more relaxed, but it provided crucial lessons in editorial precision—such as the correct placement of commas and the judicious use of em-dashes. My time at The Ken has further reinforced my commitment to continual learning, especially to the crafts of writing and revision.
Throughout these diverse newsroom experiences, one constant has defined my professional approach: unwavering dedication to the craft. I am committed, disciplined, and professional—always attentive to deadlines. I manage pressure with composure and strive to maintain constructive relationships with colleagues.
